and technology. We are seeking a Spectrum Systems Manager to
provide comprehensive technical support and engineering analyses
related to spectrum management of satellite systems.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
You will represent the company's interests at international
meetings of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and
the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) and
prepare and advocate company contributions and positions on
spectrum and standards issues.
 
You will also participate in national preparatory proceeding and
meetings at the FCC, Department of State and in industry groups
with satellite spectrum/orbit issues and advise appropriate
elements within the company on such matters.
 
REQUIREMENTS
 
Requirements include a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or
related discipline; graduate level courses in communications,
EE, or physics highly desirable.
 
A minimum of 8 years in radio systems engineering with at least
4 years in satellite communications.
 
Experience with FCC, ITAC, ITU/WRC and CITEL processes highly
desirable. International travel is required. Salary range
mid-fifties to high seventies.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
 
This position is responsible for the following services during routine satellite on-orbit operations, and during transfer orbit operations: determining satellite orbit and attitude parameters; computing and distributing satellite orbital prediction products; planning satellite station keeping, relocation, and rendezvous maneuvers; producing software functional development and change requirements; and maintaining maneuver related analysis databases. This position requires a high level of individual initiative in the areas of orbital mechanics and satellite maneuver operations. The incumbent is capable of providing classroom and individual instruction, in the various functional areas of the Orbital Mechanics Group.
 
MAJOR DUTIES:
 
Monitor on a daily basis the quality and quantity of the tracking and/or ranging data.
Provide Pre and Post maneuver orbit determination.
Monitor when out-of-limits conditions will occur and prepare a weekly schedule of planned spacecraft maneuvers, jet firing parameters, stations, and personnel needed.
Plan maneuvers and generate maneuver messages.
Generate drift plans and predictions for spacecraft relocations and traffic transitions.
Provide on-site support, as required, for aborted maneuvers and maneuver anomalies.
Update maneuver results (including propellant accounting and thruster performances).
Support special projects, such as requests for prediction data, trending analysis, and testing of new
software and hardware.
Provide operational support for launches and in-orbit testing of all spacecraft.
Assist in training new employees.
Provide acting-Orbital Mechanics Supervisory services, when assigned.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
A degree in Astronomy, Mathematics, Physics or relevant equivalent; 3 to 10 years experience in fuel optimal methodologies used in satellite station keeping, co-location, relocation, and transfer orbit mission operations.
Familiarity with orbit and attitude dynamics.
Familiarity with the principles of orbit and attitude determination.
Proven ability to remain emotionally composed under the stresses of real-time mission operations.
Good command of the English language.
 
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Ability to read and understand legacy FORTRAN astrodynamics computer programs.
Ability to compose application programs, using FORTRAN, C, C++, PERL, or any combination of these programming languages.
Ability to write software system requirements.
Proven technical presentation skills.

Southwest MicroNet has two immediate openings at the Texas Gateway Earth Station. Qualified applicants will be responsible for operating and maintence of uplink and downlink video satellite equipment. Applicants must also have experience in repairing HPA's and related ground control equipment (exciters, receivers, audio and video equipment). Ideal candidate will have 5 years earth station experience. Experience with generators and UPS systems a plus.
